Low light pollution across the whole basin means the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye on most clear nights, year-round. Guided tours run from Lake Tekapo and Aoraki/Mount Cook Village, with or without a telescope, and astrophotography workshops for anyone wanting to take the shot home.
